Every cell in your body hears every thought in your brain

Yoga teachers are so predictable đ You can count on us to ask you to notice your breath, your thoughts, and practice gratitude. After youâve practiced these for a while, you begin to realize that there is some efficacy behind what we say. Noticing your breath automatically shifts it and allows you to downregulate your nervous system. Your thoughts affect the hormones released into your system and affect your disease-state.Â
Thoughts directly influence cellular health and function by initiating biochemical and energetic changes in the body. Through the mind-body connection, mental states (positive or negative) are converted into chemical signals, such as neurotransmitters and hormones (like cortisol), which dictate how cells behave. (Neurological Institute of Los Angeles)Â Practicing gratitude has so many positive results and here are just a few (at the end of this blog, you will find a gratitude practice you can implement into your routineâif youâre too busy to read this right now, you can skip ahead, but I implore you to keep reading):
How Thoughts Affect Cells: Reduction of Cellular Inflammation: Research indicates that gratitude reduces inflammatory biomarkers, such as tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). A study of heart failure patients showed that those who kept a gratitude journal for eight weeks had significantly lower levels of these inflammatory markers. (ScienceDirect.com)
Practicing gratitude improves cell health by reducing inflammation, enhancing immune function, and slowing cellular aging. It triggers the release of dopamine and serotonin, which lower cortisol levels and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to reduce stress and boost cardiovascular health.Â
Impact of Gratitude on Cellular Function
Reduced Inflammation:Â Gratitude reduces inflammatory responses by lowering stress-related substances like TNF-Â
Immune System Support:Â Regular gratitude practice correlates with improved immunity and enhanced cellular repair, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
Epigenetic Modulation:Â Gratitude may act as a form of cellular reprogramming, modifying gene expression to foster a more resilient, healthier internal environment.
Reduced Cellular Senescence:Â Gratitude supports the immune system's ability to efficiently remove senescent ("zombie") cells, which are linked to aging.Â

Physical and Mental Health Connections
Neurotransmitter Release:Â Gratitude acts as a natural antidepressant by boosting neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.
Stress Reduction:Â By managing cortisol, gratitude fosters a "calm-and-connect" state rather than a "fight-or-flight" response.
Improved Sleep and Heart Health:Â The reduction in stress and increased happiness hormones lead to lower blood pressure and better sleep quality.Â
