If you follow me on social media, then you know that I have wonderful news about my health: my Rheumatoid Arthritis is in remission! This is the second time I’ve been in remission since I was diagnosed in 2017. If you didn’t get a chance to read about the onset of my RA and what that journey looked like, you can catch up here: https://ilovebluedoor.com/gratitude-for-your-strong-body/
There are many reasons that I love that I’m in remission:
I get to start weaning off the yucky meds that allow me to keep moving my body and living my life (it’s a low dose chemotherapy drug)
I know for a fact that a healthy lifestyle can cure you from disease
I get to say “I told you so” to my rheumatologist who laughed when I said that I would get off the drugs and cure myself 😊
I’m not going to lie, I loved showing my doc that Eastern Medicine knows what it’s talking about when it comes to the body and disease state. I’m not saying that it’s going to be smooth sailing from here on out. Stress, mindset, thoughts, diet, vagal nerve, nervous system—all of these play a role in keeping me in remission. And if any of them go awry, it will be one step back. But, I’ve got a solid game plan: yoga, nutrition, mind/gut connection, acupuncture, reiki, meditation, activating the vagal nerve, reminding myself that I AM healthy and I’ve got this!
If you’ve been to my classes recently, I’ve been talking about activating the vagal nerve (the bundle of nerves that run in front of the bony spine—often referred to as the soft spine). There are many ways to activate the vagal nerve, but one of the easiest (IMHO) is by chanting. One of my favorites is Bhramari Pranayama which is a multitasker, a breath technique AND chanting (you can find a tutorial on it here:
You guys, I just have one thing to say: mind/body work really works. But, it only works if you DO IT. Use your yoga membership, use your gym membership, eat healthy foods, do the meditation, get enough sleep, take an Epsom salt bath, expand your social circle, have a cup of tea and cookie after yoga 😊 Do all the stuff that you need and revel in being healthy and alive. Also, I’m here for you if you need help in navigating this path <3
