welcome to the year of the (fire) horse

Welp, 2026 has been a crazy rollercoaster ride so far!  Haven’t I been saying this 2020?  Maybe 2017?  I believe each year is testing how much resilience we really have 😊

I don’t know how woo-woo you are, but I believe Blue Door is just the right amount of woo-woo so we are going to chat Chinese Lunar New Year.  Which begins today!  In the Chinese calendar, 2025 was the Year of the Snake and 2026 is the Year of the (Fire) Horse.  Here’s what you need to know about the transition from 2025 to 2026.

The Year of the Snake is exactly what it sounds like: a shedding.  Shedding of things that no longer serve you: shedding of systems that are oppressive, shedding of habits that keep you stuck, shedding of people that are no longer your tribe. And the Year of the (Fire) Horse is exactly what IT sounds like: forward momentum but with the fire, it has extra urgency, extra speed.  The Snake is associated with wisdom, calculation, and shedding old patterns, while the Horse represents rapid, forward momentum and, in "Fire Horse" years, heightened intensity.

The astrologers I follow (I know, I can’t even believe I just wrote that sentence!) say that this is a year to ground and find sure footing.  Things are moving at lightning speed and just because it’s a Fire Horse Year doesn’t mean we need to match that energy.  If we do, all we will feel is chaotic and thrown asunder.  Instead, we are meant to ascertain where our energies are best spent and focus on that.  So much stuff is floating around and if we try to make an impact on each item that comes into our sphere, we will definitely lose—lose focus, lose momentum, lose willpower.  So instead of trying to do something with everything, find causes, people, items that matter to you and focus on those.  In this discernment, you will have more impact.

And for those of you who are feeling like the world is too much (haven’t I been saying THIS since 2017?!?), here is a little nugget: the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse occurs every 60 years (the last one was in 1966) and this transition always, historically, heralds big shifts.  The cycle represents a "clearing the path" in the Snake year, followed by taking "bold steps" in the Horse year.
